Too Much Green Patina on Chimney
May 8, 2009
We just added patina to a new copper chimney and it is bright green. We were seeking more of a mix of subtle green and bronze tones that appears to be naturally aged over time. How do we fix this? We would appreciate any help.
Thanks,

Talk to the people that you bought the copper from and the people that you bought the patina from. You might be able to go over the green with a light coat of brown or bronze...In time, it probably will start turning brown. Time is measured in years.

Remove patina and then try next process-step 1/2-5% liver of sulfur ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] solution, paint or spray it on, step 2/try ammonium carbonate and ammonium chloride solution(250 gm each/1 lit water)-less carbonate more chloride more yellow hue, less chloride more carbonate more blue green hue.Step 2 must be repeated several times.Try it on some scrap first.Hope it helps and good luck!
