Quick Connects for Rectifier to Anodizing Frame

April 21, 2009

We anodize a variety of Al alloys. Every 4 - 6 weeks or so, I have to pull the electrical cables from the anodizing frame and clean them because of current loss. We connect the parts to the frame with screw/bolt connectors. I was wondering if there are quick-connect options (no tools required) that can be used to maintain good contact between the cables and frame.

Even better, is there a good prophylactic that would prevent or slow down the corrosion of the cable ends?

Thanks.

An 18 volt cordless drill makes disassembly quite rapid, but corrosion removal is still a pain.
Michigan Chrome and Chemical's pyramid plastics division in Arkansas sells a vinyl product called Super XP 1000 that is really great if you can lightly blast the rack and then "bake" it at 140 F for a while. Air dry works, but it takes a while.
Common vinyl for tool handles will work also, but needs about 24 hours drying time. You can get it at most auto supply shops and places like Harbor Freight. Some big box stores carry it, but none near me.
Saran wrap followed by two or three layers of vinyl tape is a poor man's fix.
