Hi,

There is no standard for E-Coat thickness. However, thickness can be achieved from 15 - 30 microns consistently; depends upon the component shape & customer requirements.

E-coat thickness can be controlled with the following parameters mainly.

1. Concentration of the paint (Non Volatile content)
2. DC Voltage
3. Process time

15 Micron thickness E-Coat can easily withstand 480 hours Salt Spray test. But your requirement seems to be very low at 48 hours.

It all depends on the paint and the application. Each paint has an upper limit past which you generally cannot get more paint to deposit. In terms of a minimum however, it all depends.

You're best off either asking your paint supplier or performing extensive testing on your own to determine the best thickness.
