How to get the special effects in powder coating

I'm a powder coater in Illinois and all we really do is basic coating with some effects with different colors but I've seen some work done that has designs in it like dragons or flames. was just wondering if anyone knows how to accomplish these effects with powder coating or knows of somewhere where I can find out more on it.

Hi Joe,
Please be informed that the process required to get those type of effects is heat transfer printing on powder coated metals.

The most basic method would be to introduce masking. You can perform powder on powder application. However, as above, the most likely method to achieve effect finishes is to use ink transfer by sublimation.

A common end use is wood effect powder coatings, which simulate the appearance of wood grain. These typically use a double powder coated layer, with the wood effect transfer heat pressed (sublimation) onto cured powders. Becoming very popular in Europe now!
