Having trouble mirror polishing stainless sheets




April 4, 2009

1.we have installed our rotary polishing line very recently.
2.we are having two heads for polishing.
3.the Dia of polishing disc is 210 mm.
4.It is having auto polishing compound.
5.Our input sheet is 304 grade stainless steel with 2B finish.
6.In a head we are having 14 discs.
7.Our problem is we are not getting the mirror finish what we want.
8.We have ended up with band marks and dull surface.
9.The reflectance what we are getting is around 73-75 at 85 degrees.
10. Also we are getting cup marks on the sheets.It looks like 3D pattern.
11.Suggest an idea to overcome this.
12.Should we go for different type of felt other than what we are using.

If polishing compound is of good quality and clean, most of the time, these problems are associated with dust particles in ambient or surrounding areas. Another less probable cause could be too much pressure, lack of lubricant or damaged wheels.

These are my first 2 suggestions:
#1 If you bought the equipment from a vendor, I'd suggest you contact them and discuss your problem.
#2 If you built it yourself, It sounds as if you have too much pressure or compound on the disc's.
