Chrome plating on high speed rotating equipment
I have a screw on which I have to build up 0.35 mm. thick plating.
The speed is 10000 rpm. And working temperature is 200-225 degree C.
My query is:
Whether bonding shall be perfect during rotation and at that high temperature.
Uniformity can be achieved.

Chrome plating, though generally considered an acceptable reclaim method, has limitations. For very critical high speed rotating elements such as turbines and compressors the API standards do not recommend it because of its high internal stresses, microcracks, limited adhesion and hydrogen embrittlement to the substrate. Recommended methods include welding using TIG and SAW and spraying using HVOF, HVLF and ICP equipment.
