Bulk curing of painted components

April 7, 2009

I am an Applications Engineer providing solutions to industry of all types. I order to serve the wide spectrum of customers I need to be informative and read widely.

Recently I realised small components are processed in bulk in finishing industry after painting. What wonder me is the curing part after coating. How the surface finish of the components will not be affected by the contact of the components?

please correct me if my understanding is wrong and hope that you can give me the right answer.

Thanks.

I am guessing that you are talking about dip-spin finishing. In dip-spin parts are coated in bulk and then dumped onto a mesh conveyor belt or in trays. Then proceed to go through the oven for curing. You question was; isn't the finish affected by the touching of the parts? The easy answer is yes, they are. Dip-spin finishing is not meant to produce Class A finishes. The goal is typically to provide corrosion protection and often lubricity to control the torque/tension relation ship in bolted joints. When color or aesthetics are important 2 coats are often used to help cover up the touch marks.
