Finishing a galvanized tube

March 12, 2009

We galvanize steel tubes and then paint them for further protection. For long we have been scraping the surface with files prior to painting. It is a laborious process and thus we purchased a pipe sander. It does the job well, but we are not sure what would be best grade of abrasive to use so that the surface offers mechanical key for paint adhesion. There is a woven belt which does the job but gets loaded too quickly.
Any ideas?
thanks for reading.

Hmmm. Just about any abrasive wheel will get loaded up with galvanized coating. You may want to try a steel wire wheel, but you may also want to look into another cut off method.
