Applying a clear sealer on black steel
Could you recommend me a process or product to stop oxidation on black steel. I also want to keep the rust look.
Thank you

Hi, Ricardo. Rust tends to be non-adherent and slough off, taking the clear coat with it. Further, if a simple clear coat could really provide long term durable protection of raw metal in severe exposure conditions, the automobile industry would not have to use galvannealed sheet metal, followed by a phosphatizing treatment, followed by e-coating, followed by 2 or more topcoats to deter corrosion. A clear coat will afford some level of protection, but please don't expect truly long term durable protection in an outdoor environment. Our supporting advertiser Everbrite [a finishing.com supporting advertiser] and others offer good clear coating solutions that will do what clear coating can do.
