Salt spray testing for SS 304

February 28, 2009

Hi,

I am working with a company wherein we are making SS utensils for European market. I wanted to know how salt spray testing is done. And can it be done in intervals. Like if it has to be tested for 24 hrs. Then daily 8 hrs for three days can be done. Also what are the other tests which are required for SS 304 utensils.

Hi, Abhay. You have to choose a salt spray test -- ASTM B117 is a common procedure -- and then you have to adhere to it. That will include the fact that the test cannot be interrupted, but must be continuous.
