Quality Problem

February 13, 2009

hi I am working in a pvt. Concern. I am quality control department. Our concern having a nickel plating (auto plating) process. Here one quality problem having me, the components not achieve the plating thickness above 8 micron.
Thanks & Regards
P.Balakumar.

Hi, Balakumar. Although it's certainly possible that something is amiss in the process, you haven't given us any information to lead us in that direction. Please look into Faraday's Law of Electrolysis and calculate for us what thickness you should expect if the process were 100 percent efficient based on the plating time and current density. Thanks!

Most of the time less than calculated plate thickness is because of an area miscalculation. The next reason is doing the measurement in a low current density area.
Normally, you just increase the plating time (or the amperage if you can).
