Long term corrosion of 416 SS in a medical device
We are developing a medical product that contains bronze, anodized aluminum, and 416 ss parts. The 416 components are passivated prior to assembly. All the components are dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] (IPA) prior to assembly. Once assembled, the assembly is wiped with 70% IPA, allowed to air dry. The assembly is packaged in a PETG tray with tyvek lid and heat sealed. It is then Gamma irradiated to sterilize. Is there any chance the 416 will rust during the 5 year life of the package? It's a medical device so the storage conditions are pretty benign.

Walt,
Given that the sealed package will keep the part perfectly dry, I would not expect any chance of developing rust.
