Non toxic, less labour intensive precleaning of cold blackodising components.

Hi, I am am working in tool room of an OEM(M/C TOOL ). We are using cold blackodising process for of our fixture components. The general manufacturing process for most fixture components is
1. heat treatment
2. blackodising (new cold blackodising plant)
3. finish grinding

the problem with this process sequence is very labour intensive cleaning of heat treatment residues on the components before cold blackodising because it is said that cold blackodising chemicals are spoilt by the heat treatment residues.
Pl. recommend a less labour intensive, less toxic effluent generating cold cleaning process which I can undertake before I go ahead with cold blacodising process.

A reducing atmosphere furnace, or a vacuum furnace or using stainless steel Baggies over the parts.
