Aluminum gassing out during powder coating operations
I work as the QA Manager for a Mid Sized Furniture Company. We currently Powder Coat some Aluminum parts for one of our chair lines and we continually keep getting gas out when powdering. We have tried running the parts through the oven first to see if this helps the problem, but we still get gas out. Any suggestions?

This a common problem... which is cured by pre-heating. The temp at which this is carried out is slightly higher than PC cure temp. The item is then coated before it cools to room temp and then immediately baked. If this does not work try pre-coating with a wash primer (now considered environmentally a problem material) or a waterborne primer similar to "Anoprime". Either of these options will eliminate gassing...but you should combine this with a anti gassing powder (standard powder with the cure slowed down to allow the air to escape).
