Erosion of the zinc passivated surface in storage
We have given zinc passivated (Dichromate yellow finish) finish to the CR steel covers for some electronic modules. For last one year they were lying in AC environment now we are facing problem of erosion on its surface. We fail to understand the reason behind. Kindly suggest reason behind it and how it can be avoided in the future. Please suggest some remedy also for the existing pieces. i.e. how these can be rectified at this stage.

Hi, Sanjay. Perhaps there is a typo in your posting and the parts have suffered corrosion? It is very difficult to guess whether the environment was corrosive or the parts were poorly plated, but stripping and replating is relatively inexpensive if the base metal was not severely attacked, and also offers you the opportunity to make these electronic components RoHS compatible this time.
