Difference Between Yellow and White Galvanizing?
September 21, 2008
hello
I want to know about the differences between yellow and white galvanizing.
the main thing is that I have fixed the zinc galvanized support with dichromate anchor bolts and somebody raised the corrosion problem. Is it correct or not?

All galvanizing is about the same colour, but it is possible to cause it to have a yellowish colour by chromate passivation. Its the chromate that's yellow, not the galvanizing.
This passivation will keep the zinc looking a bit shinier for longer, but I doubt you'd measure any difference in corrosion protection of the steel underneath.
Mixing passivated with unpassivated galvanizing should present no problems.
Some people comment on dull grey versus shiny silver galvanizing. The difference is due to the reaction between the steel and the zinc. There's no measurable difference in the corrosion protection afforded by either.
