Need help identifying plating used on part in this picture

All,

I am trying to identify the plating used on the part in the attached picture (ash tray for vintage car) The color is a real light grey with a tiny hint of blue. It does not match the grey phosphate plating I have on some of my other parts. The plating does not have a crystalline structure like phosphating etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Because the spot welds are still very visible, and no crystalline structure, it probably wasn't plated at all. Looks like sheet metal that was galvanized. The actual butt tray itself should have been chrome plated, which the photo does not really show.
