Allergic to titanium plate in neck

September 7, 2008

My name is Helen and I am a nurse. I had a ACD with titanium plate in 2003. I am allergic to most metals. Since I had this plate put in, I have rashes and lesions on my hands, arms, and legs that appear and sometimes go away. My doctors says it could be related to medications or diabetes. What do you think? Please advise.

Thanks
Helen

Hi, Helen. Sorry for your troubles. Although I personally doubt that this titanium plate has anything to do with your problems, I also doubt that a stranger on the internet, with no medical training, can improve on your doctors' diagnosis :-)

Medical journals would be a better source for independent study than a metal finishing website, and with your training you would probably understand them better than me. Best of luck with your hardship.

Allergic reactions to pure titanium are very rare-probably problem is in finishing process used on that plate (or in alloy ingredients). Hope it helps and good luck!
