Aluminum anodizing: wire to use prior to anodizing
August 21, 2008
Hello
I am trying to find out what wire we are not supposed to use prior to anodizing. I was told if we use the incorrect wire, the anodizing will create a black or discolored mess.
I am trying to figure out what wire to use. I cannot find it in the specs, but the anodizing is a clear coat class 1 clear. All aluminum shall be anodized in compliance with AAM12cc22a41? This is just the clear coat spec info? I am new to the business and looking for some info- thanks

I'm assuming you are talking about welding rod on a part to be anodized? If thats the case, I would use 5356 for the best results, although you will still see a difference in color between the weld, and the aluminum substrate.
Avoid hi Si rod, like 4043..it will turn a black color when clear anodized.
