How to rhodium plate and not get steely grey

August 12, 2008

I am a jeweller based in India, having problems with Rhodium plating by Electrolysis method (dipping). I use Umnicores J1. I find my rhodium not as bright and white as others in the industry. Please advice how I can get my rhodium to look bright silver. Right now it is steel grey in color.

Ed. note: Readers, we don't compare brands on this site, and have included the name of the plating solution only to help readers who may be familiar with the brand to know its characteristics like recommended temperature and concentration.

If this product is made by a reputable vendor, then they have a Tech Services Dept. to answer questions just like yours. If they do not. find a vendor that does. It is part of what you are paying for when you buy the solution. Remember, cheap frequently has cheap results.
