How to durably finish teak for a floor
August 8, 2008
I have recently come across a large quantity of 6" teak planks, some of which are 16' long.
I ran a piece through a surface planner and it is beautiful. I want to make a floor out of it no problem with the milling of the lumber but what would be the best finish? How can flooring companies get 25 years from their finishes?
ANY IDEAS?

Hi, Dave. Flooring companies have access to equipment and processes that you don't, including a filtered dust-free environment, humidity control, the ability to apply coatings at high temperatures, and perhaps most importantly pressurized platens for high pressure lamination.
How about teak oil

? Some types are reportedly almost odor free and film-free. Alternately you could stain and varnish.
