Nitric acid passivation procedures are easily found in the old mil spec QQ-P-35C (canceled) [link is to free spec at Defense Logistics Agency, dla.mil] or either of its replacement specs ASTM A967 or
AMS2700.
You may also use citric acid based passivation.
