Preserving copper bartop of busy gulf pub

I have a old tavern that I am purchasing that has a bar that has sheets of copper covering it. First what is the best way to clean it to shine it up and second can it be urethaned to preserve it? or other suggestions, I don't want it turning green every couple months. Also this pub is in Florida and is on the gulf and is an open air pub, only closed up at closing till opening. HELP!

There are special lacquers, available in aerosol cans, for protecting copper. Do a web search for them.

That said, nothing will last very long on a busy bar.

I think you'll find you need some copper polish and a large dose of elbow grease twice a week or so.
