Barrel wear from lead filled full metal steel jacket bullets.
Q. Gentlemen, How much additional barrel wear from lead filled full metal steel jacket bullets could you expect compared to standard copper-lead bullets. I want to try some through my M1A1 (308). Thank you for your information.

A. My wild guess is that it would be at least 100 times greater. Also, it is not going to swedge into the barrel at all, so I will guess that there will be a loss of accuracy and velocity.
I gave up on being a shooter 30 years ago, but I have never seen this as a legal product. Unless you are shooting cement blocks or bullet proof vests, why would you want to use it?

A. I don't think you're likely to get that answer here.
Here's a better place to ask:

A. Steel on steel is a bad combination. Friction is high and I would expect considerable wear and reduced muzzle velocity. This is why the usual bullet jacket is cupronickel.
If you have some advantage in using steel jackets, I would investigate one of the molybdenum or PTFE coatings readily available in the gun trade
