Cleaning service needs help removing fingerprints from mirror finished plastic reflectors
July 27, 2008
I need help finding a product and/or method for cleaning off fingerprints & smudges from the highly reflective mirror like finish of plastic fluorescent lighting reflectors.
They are attatched to 48" fluorescent fixtures and amplify & direct the light downward. Glass cleaning products, nor multipurpose cleansers leave a residue with little result. Stainless steel cleaner removes the major portion of the print but leaves residue as well. My feeling is that solvents such as
lacquer thinner

would be risky because of the plastic. Perhaps
isopropyl alcohol

isopropyl alcohol ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] is probably your best shot. Get a good clean chamois ⇦[this on eBay or Amazon affil links] and wipe it down when it's cool.
