Is secondary containment required for Powder coating wash system tanks?
Do I need a barrier around the powder coating wash system tanks in case of a rupture? Are there EPA or other regulations that must be followed and if so, what are they?

Hi, Dennis. Last time I checked, EPA had secondary containment requirements for cyanide but not phosphatizing solutions. But often there are secondary containment requirements enforced by local POTWs and occasionally regional authorities.
I like to use the terms "leak" or "overflow" rather than "rupture" because open-top metal finishing tanks don't burst open (at least I've never heard of a single case in a long career in metal finishing), whereas being cognizant of small leaks and the possibility of overflows is very important. Good luck.
