Steel blueing for watch hands

Dear Expert,

We are manufacturing steel blued watch hands. The material used is highly polished steel and blueing is done by thermal process.(i.e by heating in a electrically oven) The problem we are facing is , when we subject the parts to tropical climet test (as per DIN 50015) some components fail in the test.(not all the component subjected to test will fail) We would like to know is there any process to protect the Blued surface. We cannot use spray of clear lacquer as it is acceptable.

Try 5-20 % shellac solution+you must bake them 30 minutes at 120-180 C.Hope it helps and good luck!

Jayasimha,

Did you ever have any luck with this? I have a similar application that I am working on and would be interested in knowing the results/method?

Thank you.
