Determining plating type to recover precious metal from circuit boards
June 24, 2008
I have a lot of electronic equipment that is plated some is yellow gold some is silver colored. It came out of Sprint analog equipment. What can I use to determine the type of plating used; what should I use to remove it; or is someone interested in buying it as is. The materials plated are brass, aluminum, and I think stainless steel.
Thank You.

Hi, Patricia. Sorry, but we can't be a free eBay ; we'd surely drown under postings within a month :-)
List it on eBay or Craig's list, but don't be surprised in no one wants it: E-waste is a worldwide plague. There are recyclers in most large cities and I think you should drop it off at one. For more info on recovery of metal values, though, you could look at letters 771b, 5048, 18889, and 19149. Good luck.
