Amount of H2S ppm allowable in a 5454 alum tank?
My name is Garry Stewart
Director of Maintenance for a transport company. I have a situation in which we haul a product called Naptha, Un # 1203 in our alum. B trains. The product itself does not have H2S, but the vapors released do. This product can reach a ppm of 9.5 not higher. My question would be what is the allowable limit that H2S could go before the 5454 alum alloy would start to corrode, Are we okay at 9.5 or is that too high?

We are currently transporting Naptha (UN 1203) in petroleum tankers made of 5454 aluminum. The Naptha has a concentration of H2S in vapor registering a 10 ppm concentration. What impact does the concentration or concentrations of higher levels have over the long term toward this aluminum?
