Want to refinish rifle, but not let chemicals into the barrel

I am considering letting a metal finishing shop who are not gunsmiths but do black oxidation refinish a marlin lever action I have. Do you use cork or can you, to seal the barrel ends so it does not get in the barrel?

It will be difficult to seal off the bore since the temperature is so high (290F). What difference does it make if the bore is coated? The coating is too thin to measure, and will be worn off in the first few shots anyway?

I would send it to a reputable gunsmith - after I saw samples of his/her work on similar metal. There are also safety issues which lead to liability issues.

Jim, bluing doesn't add anything to the metal. Studies have been done and it does not effect the inside of the barrel or accuracy at all. Plugs can not (and should not) be used, as the temperature rise will blow them out (and cause some bad problems).
Good luck.
