Denickeling from dead weights

March 30, 2008

We had got our 500 kg mild steel dead weights (dia 920 mm) and the required thickness wasn't up to our requirement. (Just for more information: we used electroless nickel solution)
So the contractor after cleaning the surface and activating the dead weight dipped the weight in the electroless solution. after 3 hrs when we took the dead weights out of the solution the surface wasn't smooth and the dead weight had random patches of bubbles trapped underneath the nickel layer which on scrubbing kept peeling off.
I want to know as what should we do now? Shall we again do the nickel plating over the patchy surface(looks aren't of much importance to us)and if No, then how should we proceed to remove the nickel plating(approx 15 microns) already done.

Hi , I would not consider plating over the top of blistered plating .

I would suggest you strip and start again.

Strip using "enstrip"

I'm not sure of the make up of the strip but I'm sure this site will help you

hope this helps
