It's "Clear" It's all I can hope for

Thanks in advance for considering my Question. I am semi retired and funds are minimal.
I have painted (lacquer) cars in my younger days with good results. I have a good set of HVLP gravity guns, but a smaller compressor (40gal) and have good luck recently with BC/CC on repairs. I have an old Corvette (Black Sapphire) and want to paint the nose and doors.
I now I have to use an slow overall mix (PPG) and wait for air pressure. And I rigged the garage for some air flow. I want to use a lot of Clear coats and then color sand out orange peel, fish-eyes nib's etc, Question Is: How many coats of clear can I put on before I get into problems of Popping or color fogging.

If you wait long enough between coats and let them dry slowly, you can put on many, many coats without solvent popping. It's just a matter of giving the solvent time to evaporate.

Ditto with color fogging, but don't try to spray when the relative humidity is high.

Most folks find that three coats of clear is enough to color sand without sanding through.
