How to Tarnish Brass

I have been asked to tarnish a brass hand rail so that it looks like weathered bronze. How is this done? The patina needs to be a bronze look with some gold tone coming thru. Afterwards how do you keep the finish from getting any darker with time.

Thanks.

Hello, John. Letters 34482 and 33187 should be a good start. If they are not specific enough to the questions you have in mind, please let us know what questions remain. Good luck!

I would suggest that you contact a metal finishing shop in your area that specializes in the restoration of antiques. They generally will have finishes available to color and relieve brass for the effect you are trying to achieve.
