Is GOLD IRIDITE plating hex free?
I've tried to read all the different questions about plating, but I can not seem to grasp the concept. My only question that needs to be answered is: Is gold Iridite hex-free? Thanks for your info!

And unfortunately the answer is: maybe, but probably not.
Traditionally Iridite and other chromate conversion coatings were not hex-free, but Iridite is a trade name like Colgate or Listerine. If someone decides that toothpaste should not contain fluoride, or mouthwash should not contain alcohol, those famous trade names will not be discarded; rather, the products will be reformulated. When someone decided that chromate conversion coatings should be hex-free for some applications, specific Iridite products were reformulated to be hex-free. The problem is that the spec "gold Iridite" is too loose for today's situation. Make sure that Macdermid has a hex-free Iridite that you both agree is "gold" and either spec that particular product or write it as "hex-free gold Iridite". Good luck.
