CN3MN casting corrosion help
I have been facing the corrosion problem with CN3MN stainless steel components used in the saline water treatment. This problem is not common and this was reported only from one customer site. We have seen the water analysis report and nothing found abnormal. The chemical composition report of this component is also found to be within the specification. The extended corrosion test shows positive on pitting corrosion. The microstructure also indicates some traces of ferrite or carbides in it. The corrosion is such that the base material is eaten up heavily and component started leaking after 10 - 15 months in use.
Can any one help to through some focus on the possible root causes.

If you have SAME CONDITIONS in ALL SYSTEMS (water - Pipe) then, for the particular case, there is an ACCELERATOR CORROSION AGENT in the environment (T, flow, metal particles, e-, H+,....).
