How to chromic anodise black

Chromic Acid Anodzing can be dyed black, not very pretty, but black enough to color code.

I have seen this sort of request on several occasions recently. It's almost as if designers have decided that Chromic anodise will absorb dye like sulfuric anodise.

What they are essentially after is Chromic acid anodise with a supplementary black dye. It can be done but the results are highly variable and you will never get a consistent black colour, you will get plenty of shades of grey/red/blue, depending on what the dye base colour is.
