Yes, Salooja, one of the better troubleshooting guides is The Canning Handbook [on eBay, Amazon, AbeBooks affil links]. For hard chrome plating specifically, Guffie's "Hard Chromium Plating" is excellent; for EN, Mallory & Hajdu's "Electroless Plating -- Fundamentals and Applications" [on eBay , Amazon, or AbeBooks affil links] is very good.

And the simplest and smallest is Trouble in your Tank by L Durney. Well worth the cost for any plater as well as a quick first glance analyzes of possible problems.
