Can ZAMAK be Sand Cast?

January 5, 2008

Dear All ,

I need to know can ZAMAK be only die-cast (pressure or other) or can it be also SAND CAST for Automotive or any other component ?
What will be the impact on the performance of the component or limitation in processing the component ?

Rohan Deliwala

The main reason to use a permanent (metallic) mold or die is to obtain better surface quality on your parts, keep tighter tolerances and increased mold life. Sand molding can lead to excessive porosity and roughness which is objectionable for many applications.
