Pickling Steel with Inhibited Muriatic
Our company does electropolishing. We want to pickle steel with inhibited muriatic for a customer who is going to apply a black coating called Patina afterwards. I want to know about controlling the reactivity of the steel after the pickling. Can I clean and electropolish afterwards.

The steel will be very active and susceptible to flash rusting after hydrochloric acid pickling, despite the inhibitors. I think you will need to apply a rust inhibiting oil. To my knowledge it is not possible to electropolish carbon steel.
