Pre-paint detergent
2007
Can anyone recommend a detergent to be used to wash steel weldments prior to painting? These weldments will be washed with high pressure hot water (150 degrees F)to remove weld fume residue, oil, anti-spatter compound, dirt, loose rust, etc...
Ideally, this detergent would provide some short term rust prevention. And, be environmentally friendly.
Thanks

Hello, John. Just as we have brand-name dishwasher detergents, laundry detergents, and hand washing detergents, each containing a combination of ingredients optimized to the specific purpose, there are industrial cleaning solutions formulated to the purpose, taking into consideration the spraying temperature, the substrate metal, and the type of soils, etc.
There are many suppliers who offer a whole range of such cleaners --
Accu-Labs, Inc. [a finishing.com supporting advertiser], Atotech, Chemetall, Coyne Chemical, CTS Surtec, EPI / Electrochemical Products Inc. [a finishing.com supporting advertiser], Heatbath, Luster-On and Macdermid are a few.
