Nickel plating a ten foot stainless steel tube
2000
Hello,
My name is Paul.
I work in the thin films coating industry.
I am looking for a company who can Nickel plate a ten foot long, five inch diameter stainless steel tube with a .130 wall thickness. I need it plated on the O.D. only. I will be wetting tin to this surface. A company in the northeast U.S. preferred, but not required. If you know of a better material than Nickel to wet tin to that can be plated to stainless, I would be very interested in that too. Thanks

We would be delighted to help you with coating the steel tube, if it was less than 7 feet long! Our Chemical Vapour Deposition process has been used to do nickel coating and also to make nickel tubes with very fine tolerances for depth of nickel deposited and for purity.
The advantages of using the CVD process are that it is up to 25 faster than traditional electro-forming, as we grow nickel at the rate of 0.010" per hour. So, in one day we can deposit nickel to about a quarter inch thick! Also the nickel is purer and can be hardened by adding boron to the gas mixture, so we can form shapes as hard as 55RockwellC.

We plate items up to 120" long by 18" in diameter over a wide variety of substrates on a routine basis.
Maybe we can help.
