Painting an antique galvanized patio set

2007

I am in need of some expertise. I have recently become the greatful owner of an antique 3 piece galvanized patio set. It consists of two folding chairs, and a taller folding table.
However the paint is starting to peel and fall off. Now I know from years ago that once the metal is clean you can wipe it down with vinegar in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil links] for better paint adhesion.
This however is the extent of my knowledge.
I would greatly welcome any information that would help me protect this galvanized treasure.
I need to know what is the best way for the "at home hobbyist" to remove the remaining paint and white rust? Also how would I treat it to enable a nice new coat of paint to last until it comes my time to pass it on?
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Any solvent based paint stripper can be used(DMF or methylene chloride based are best for that task). You can remove white rust with5% EDTA solution(pH must be 7),or with 5% sulfuric acid.5% ammonium citrate(pH corrected to 7-50 gm citric acid this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] /1 lit water+add some ammonia)must work too. Hope it helps and good luck!
