Sweating in sea

2007

We have experienced severe problem in nickel Plated Brass items that we exported to U.K.The components reached completely soaked.

We had packed each individual component in cotton to avoid scratching, the component was then wrapped in foam and several components placed in a corrugated box.

The corrugated box was then wrapped with cling film (Polythene) from outside.I will be grateful if someone can explain why this happened.

Will it help if we stop using cotton.

First of two simultaneous responses -- 2007

Dear Sodhi
1.Thickness of nickel too low.
2.Packing method not proper.
3.avoid cloth wrapping- will absorb moisture
4.do not pack immediately after plating-Cure
5.Use silica gell in boxes.
6.consult/discuss with the corrugated box manufacturer
7.If possible try to use aluminium coated bags in place of cloths ( if your buyer can accommodate the cost)

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Use vacuum wrapping or if not feasible include enough dessicant material with your parts.
