Black Oxide finish over Brass wears off
I work for a Power Supply industry. we are building a unit that requires a black handle attached to the chassis. While we are working, the handle start losing the black painting. I was trying to contact handle distributor but she said is not a reject reason according to Mil-F-495E. Is this normal for this kind of finish?

Black oxide films over copper, typically referred to as Ebonol C coating, are indeed delicate and easily rubbed off. If you're talking about a handle that will be subjected to repeated opening and closing, the black oxide will indeed rub off. The one thing to note is that black oxide per MIL-F-495 is NOT PAINT! If you thought you were getting paint, while black oxide is a great pretreatment for subsequent painting, you're certainly not getting it!
