Deburring Chrome Moly 4140 on ID of small part with slots
2007
My name is Jay Liechty from Provo UT .
I have a large quantity (thousands - probably 30 gallons in volume) of small "cup" shaped parts (0.360" OD x 0.314" tall, with a 0.295" ID on one end and a through hole ID of 0.200" on the other end. The parts are made of 41L40 Chrome-Moly. They are slotted with a 0.040" wide saw on the 0.295" ID end and plunge about 0.280" in toward the opposite end. There is a small burr (up to 0.012") on each side of the slot on the inside of the part. I need to remove them. Tumbling in a Vibra King 45 with 3/8"x 3/16" ACC 50V cone most aggressive ceramic media for 6 hours(Vibra King's recommended media) is not working. What would work? Chemical etching, flash deburring, centrifugal deburring etc? And where would be contacts to get this done or to get supplies?
Thanks Jay

Even though you gave dimensions it is still difficult to determine proper size of media to recommend; however, I am leaning to a 2 or 3 mm triangle shape which we stock. Your time element will probably still be long because of the hard metal, but before adding either loose abrasives or strong chemicals, I'd change media size and shape, then maybe consider a high energy machine system. Send samples to see how or if centrifugal machine will work more efficient.
