Inconsistent plating thickness with Magni 594 on flat surfaces?

2007

We are a manufacturer of cold formed fasteners and based in Australia. We need to plate an M8 bolt with Magni 594 which has a square flat head - 0.70" x 0.70" x 0.08". The tolerance on the flat head is critical. We need to meet the DBL spec 9440.40 and our Magni approved plater is using Magni 594 but the plating thickness varies greatly (Magni say 12-18 microns) however as the parts touch edge to edge and sometimes back to back the plating finish is imperfect and the plating thickness can range up to 50 microns when measured over the imperfections. Has anyone experienced this before or haver any suggestions as to how to get an even plating coating?
