Copper plating to save nickel

2007

Dear Sir,
Presently we are doing Nickel Chrome Plating on chrome vanadium base
As we all are aware that today Nickel Metal cost is too much.
So we are deciding to do Rochelle copper(Cyanide copper)+Acid Copper+Nickel+ chrome
(Copper 5-7 microns & Nickel is 5-7 microns+ chrome flash)
Will this process is suitable according to bonding of each layer (Peel off problem or any other problem) Because I heard from many peoples that this process is quite complicated and not successful.
So kindly guide us in this matter
Thanks,

Duse.Vishal

As you already know from your experience as a plater, Duse, plating is certainly not dead easy. But copper-nickel-chrome is not terribly complicated compared to nickel-chrome plating. The bigger problem as I see it is that you expect the copper plating to save you on nickel plating costs, and most people think it won't. Most practitioners think that a copper underplate does not increase the corrosion resistance of nickel-chrome plating and does not allow you to reduce the thickness.
