Coating for brass statue in St. Lucia's tropical climate
I have recently moved from NY city to St.Lucia where my husband and I opened small B&B with beautiful gardens overlooking Caribbean sea. I like to decorate and like an Oriental theme. From NY I brought two brass Buddha statues, which have black (maybe lacquer) painted parts. They are getting green and white oxidized streaks all over. I need to protect them from further damage? Is there some sort of clear varnish and lacquer to use? It is very humid in here for all twelve months. I will appreciate Your suggestions.

Although I have no expertise in that particular type of piece, I don't think I've ever seen enameled brass kept in an outdoor environment. I think those are meant for an indoor garden or portico area, Wanda. I think you will be able to use brass polish and then brass lacquer ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] , however, to protect the whole piece.
I visited your beautiful island a couple of years ago, and sampled your Piton beer -- which I've been looking for ever since. It is far too easy to picture myself in that garden, feet up, pitcher of Piton . . . :-)

adv. O'Fallon, Illinois Thanks for the referral, Goran. Everbrite has a new formulation called ProtectaClear which has extra salt protectant resins to protect metal in a marine environment from salt corrosion and chlorines. It is tough and scratch resistant and has excellent adhesion to polished metal. Everbrite Coatings Rancho Cordova, California |
