Friction Co-Efficient for Zinc Plating ?
Can anybody provide the Co-Efficient of Friction value of Zinc plated seel surface ( Plain Washers) . The value is required for calculating the Tightening Torque of Bolts.
Thanks

A. I found 0.21 for pure zinc on zinc in an old ASM handbook, and 0.14-0.25 for galvanized hardware on the roymech.co.uk website. This system property is wildly variable, plus zinc is susceptible to stick-slip, so I would not rely on such values for any important calculation. A better approach may be to choose a proprietary lubricant and get from the manufacturers the typical values that should be associated with use of that lubricant.

A. You should take look to VDI 2230-1, where it says that connection on zinc galvanised steel μ>0.3 if not lubricated and if lubricated, the drop to even µ<0.1
