Finishing through sand blasting -- finish grade vs. sand size




Dear Sir I'm manager of workshop of fabrication industry kindly advise me about surface finish grade which can be achieved by sand blasting operation/process on metallic sheets also please advise about grain size of sand to achieve differrent finishing grades

Grit size is ONLY one portion of the question. What metal and hardness is it. The air pressure, gun to part distance and impact angle also fit into the discussion. Also, a siphon or a pressure system?

Typically the numerically higher the grit the smoother the surface produced. Do some R&D and make your own standards to sell to customers so that you are calling the shots Mr. Bilal.

You mentioned sand blasting. Not many people actually use sand any more because it deteriorates so quickly it is not economical. About the best surface finish you can achieve with any blasting media is about 35 RMS or Rz, multiply by 4 for Ra.
